Our council has developed a recycling business model to make good use of wasted ubame oaks (Quercus phillyraeoides) left behind in the mountains by the sea. We have been doing marketing ever since we started the production of firewood using ubame oaks cut down by forestry companies. Besides, local enterprises that are engaged in tourism business as well as in other business fields also cooperate on this project through the purchase of our firewood.
We have been making efforts to increase the attractiveness of our city also by highlighting the so-called "unused fish." In Toba, some fresh fish caught by fishermen are known as "fishermen's hidden fish" because they remain unmarketable for certain reasons. We considered how to desterilize such wasted fish, and hit on the idea of using them on ecotours or at restaurants. As a result, our efforts have stimulated the activation of the primary as well as various other industries of the region.
Many organizations take part in Toba City Ecotourism Promotion Council under the slogan of "circulation" and "collaboration." For the promotion of Toba Ecotourism, we discuss various possibilities, create better systems, and spread our ideas to enlighten more and more people.
